WEOM: A Web3 Utopia
Have you ever tried to discuss the Metaverse with someone from outside the space?
If so, you may have encountered a brutal reaction, the vision of a dystopian future hurled back in your face — everyone plugged in via VR headsets, disconnected from the natural world, locked in their homes, with a real world outside falling into ruin, and IRL face-to-face interactions a thing of the past.
Even if this future is not the one envisioned, whether by Web3 enthusiasts like us or the creators of virtual worlds, such fears can appear legitimate. How do we conceive the difference between reality and the Metaverse? The balance between the Metaverse and IRL? And how do we create something beneficial for our society and humanity?
WEOM, a virtual world still in development, has brought a radical answer to this question: the team is building a utopian metaverse, aimed at creating a better world for humanity.
Easy to say, but how do they realize such an ambitious project?

1. Change the User Experience
We are all a product of our environment.
Surrounding yourself with different people, ideas, and engaging in new practices…will change the way you evolve.
For those who may feel trapped in their everyday lives, Web3 offers such a new environment — new social spaces, new experiences, even a new economic reality.
This capacity to re-create your environment is a powerful opportunity in the Metaverse, and WEOM want to use it for the best of humanity.
a) Start Afresh
At the heart of the WEOM metaverse lies “0,0 Island”, a safe haven aimed at manifesting free expression, creativity and collaboration.
0,0 Island is made up of a core central region along with 4 elemental districts — Earth, Fire, Water and Air. Each district is infused with its own aura: The Earth district is said to be a place of great strength and stability, the Fire district a region of passion and creativity, the Water district one of serenity and wisdom, while the Air district is said to embody freedom and intuition.
In WEOM, you begin your journey as a spirit — weightless, unburdened, connected to nature…and free. Fundamentally, this is how we all came into this world.

b) Walk Your Own Path
During our lives, the people we meet and the ideas we learn, form all kinds of ego and opinions in our mind. All this impacts the decisions we make in life.
In WEOM the journey intends to help you know yourself better, granting you the power to change some of these narratives that dictate your daily life.
We at OneLand do not believe that a metaverse is a place to escape reality, but a place to build your independence and strength, and create new possibilities. And this echoes beautifully with WEOM.
c) Discover New Experiences
WEOM is the opportunity to discover new experiences.
Web3 can be an all-consuming space and it’s very easy to get lost in there (a problem OneLand intends to solve). Even merely in the process of learning more and getting more involved in the space, it’s easy to forget to take care of one’s self.
The team is developing a number of core experiences in their general Citizen Center on 0,0 Island tied to the goal of wellness and sustainability. One of these is the Meditation Center.
They’re also envisioning a Gratitude Tree, on which you can literally put each day the things for which you are grateful. Reminding ourselves what matters most is a great way to start the day, and a precious jump-off point for how you engage in the real world.
d) Be Rewarded
Web3 opens the possibilities for new, creative and more egalitarian incentive structures.
The WEOM team is strategizing for a different type of leaderboard, one in which community members are not rewarded for time spent in the metaverse, but rather incentivized to make positive changes in their daily lives.
The key idea is to combat the grinding culture that seems to have established itself as the only way to get involved in a Web3 community.
WEOM wants its rewards to be driven by the same incentives as a person’s well-being. This will allow you to thrive.
2. Mission-Driven
WEOM is a mission-driven project and it reflects in its practices, partners and community!
a) Build through Positive Practices
WEOM is a project that concretely practices what they want to bring to both the virtual and physical worlds.
For example, the weekly marketing team meeting always kicks off with a group meditation. The goal is not just for each member to work at their own personal growth, but for it to flow through to the community they all take care of…
On behalf of whom, they also implement meaningful decisions. On Sundays, for example, their Discord is in light mode — this is to encourage the WEOM community to enjoy their Sunday with screenless time out in nature and/or with friends and family.
b) Pick Meaningful Partners
WEOM has a very proactive partnership policy. They seek out partnerships and partner communities who actually align with their values.
Examples include virtual human influencer Aya Stellar (from Cosmiq Universe), and spiritual healing center The Lightforce Center who are building a pyramid both IRL in Bali as well as in WEOM on 0,0 Island.
The team’s desire is to ensure that when content is populated on their lands, it shapes as something aligned with what WEOM stands for.
c) Build Community around Values
WEOM is still early in its development and is guarding the first tranche of community members. They are yet to open up their Discord to the public though it is already close to the launch of the land sale (private land sale : Dec. 22).
They also plan to release their first private land sale in small batches in order to make sure they attract the right people to it.
This, for WEOM, is a key in preserving its values, as well as economic sustainability over the long term. A project’s earliest members constitute the foundational voice of a community, and WEOM wants to ensure they assemble people who align with their philosophy.
3. Economic Durability
Building around values does not mean WEOM will not have a sustainable economy.
The team at WEOM is convinced that it is activity on the land that provides true value, both for landlords and the community. Which is why they keep on encouraging the community to build, even providing a set of no-code tools to make it easy for anyone to develop their own experiences.
And if building is not your thing, the builder marketplace will enable you to outsource your great ideas to a dedicated group of builders.
If, as a landlord, you just want a passive income, they will match a builder to your land so you can just sit back and collect the rent.
Web3 is still in its infancy, and is facing difficult issues as we speak — too strong a similarity between projects, struggling or failing tokenomics models, lack of real life utility…
In this emerging space, WEOM is building a mission-driven metaverse, aimed at leveraging Web3 technology to improve our lives IRL. This project is paving the way for a new type of metaverse — more flexible, holistic, and easier to integrate into our daily lives.
